Good stuff, much of it ... and yet, none of them seem to generate the same
thrill in me as Radiohead, Blur, The Verve, Skunk Anansie, Faithless,
Tori Amos, The Cardigans, Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow,
Garbage, Bjork, Portishead, Morcheeba, The Sneaker Pimps, Nine Inch Nails,
Massive Attack, Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Soundgarden ... eh, I could
go on but I won't.

Possibly the music you listen to at 16/17 is better than anything else
you'll ever hear.

I don't know. I think that's partly down to how much you value novelty and
familiarity. There are a few recent albums that I rate up with my all time
favourites [1] and there are several more I expect to be up there once I
can get hold of a copy of the damn things.

The music of my late teens doesn't stand up all that well in my view.
Which is possibly because I spent my mid teens listening to Motown and
Stax and my early twenties immersed in punk. Possibly it's because there
was a particularly high volume of self indulgent rubbish around in the mid
seventies.

I think it's also important to keep seeing bands live. Music means more
somehow if you are actually there when it's being made.

[1] American Idiot by Green Day, Up The Bracket by The Libertines, Jennie
Bomb by Sahara Hotnights, and The Quiet Vibration Land by Oranger.
